Every autumn semester

The course is aimed at graduate students to understand and practically implement a radar system from commercially available electronic building blocks, and use the system in practical measurements. This provides a holistic view of a practical high-frequency electronic system, where the entire chain from hardware to algorithms is illustrated.

Basic theory of wave propagation, high-frequency electronics and signal processing for radar systems. Design of antennas, modular RF electronics, and baseband and algorithms for the detection of distance, speed and imaging techniques.

be able to build a working radar system at limited cost
be able to troubleshoot parts of the system
carry out basic measurements

be able to adapt the design to the prevailing regulations
be able to evaluate the obtained measurement data in relation to the use of the radar system

Laboratory exercises

Lectures and tutorial meetings. Most of the course is conducted as an independent laboratory work in groups, where participants take great responsibility in the design, ordering and assembly of components, and the testing and evaluation of the system. Doctoral students constructions discussed in meetings with teachers and other students.

To pass the course you need at least 80% attendance at scheduled sessions. Examinator: Mats Gustafsson

Failed, pass

Admission to the course requires basic knowledge of analog electronics, electromagnetic theory and signal processing, as well as at least one course at the advanced level in any of these subjects.
