Allmänt
Syfte
  • This course introduces key theories and concepts used in the study of Large Technical Systems (LTS) and Science Technology and Society (STS). The doctoral student shall be able to apply these theories and methods in their own research. The aim of the course is to provide students with theoretical and methodological tools to be able to independently conduct studies in the LTS/STS fields. This is achieved by introducing literature, current debates and critiques in the field.
Innehåll
  • The course consists of reading, literature seminars and written reflections on literature. The main part of the course consists of reading literature. The literature is discussed at seminars and the students shall hand in written reflections on the literature. The course is designed so that there is an opportunity for reflection and discussion about different perspectives, theories and concepts in the field.
    The course is divided into two parts that follow on each other, 2.5 hp each.
    Part 1: General literature on Science, Technology and Society (STS) including large technical systems (LTS). Same literature for all participants. Discussed at seminar with written assignments/reflections.
    Part 2: STS/LTS literature related to the participants specific research interest identified together with the PhD students. Some core common literature and some literature that is individual for each participants. Discussed in seminar and presented by the PhD students. Oral presentation of the individual chosen articles.

  • Be able to explain and compare the central theories and methods within LTS and STS.
    Be able to actively use key concepts as well as current theories in the areas of STS and LTS.
    Show insight into how climate and environmental issues are studied within STS and LTS

  • Be able to independently search for and compile information linked to course content
    Be able to link the course content to the own dissertation project
    Be able to discuss the literature presented in the course
    Be able to compile in writing and reflect upon how STS/LTS connect to the own dissertation project

  • För godkänd kurs skall doktoranden
  • Demonstrate the ability to critically assess theories and methods within STS and LTS
    Demonstrate the ability to compile and present how STS and LTS literature can be used in the dissertation project
