The goal of the course is

to give students the tools and training to recognize control problems that are suitable for PID control

to present the basic theory for PID control



to give students the background required to use the methods in their own research work or applications

to give students the tools and training to recognize convex optimization problems that arise in applications

to present the basic theory of such problems, concentrating on results that are useful in computation

to give students a thorough understanding of how such problems are solved, and some experience in solving them

to give students the background required to use the methods in their own research work or applications

Model building, the PID controller, design, control principles related to the PID controller

Understand the function of the PID controller, its tuning and how it can be used to solve complex control problems.

Be able to tune the PID controller and design larger process sections using the PID controller

demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and compare different formulations of control problems for different quality criteria
