Aim
  • The goal of the course is

    to give students the tools and training to recognize control problems that are suitable for PID control

    to present the basic theory for PID control



    to give students the background required to use the methods in their own research work or applications

    to give students the tools and training to recognize convex optimization problems that arise in applications

    to present the basic theory of such problems, concentrating on results that are useful in computation

    to give students a thorough understanding of how such problems are solved, and some experience in solving them

    to give students the background required to use the methods in their own research work or applications
Contents
  • Model building, the PID controller, design, control principles related to the PID controller
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Understand the function of the PID controller, its tuning and how it can be used to solve complex control problems.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Be able to tune the PID controller and design larger process sections using the PID controller
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • demonstrate the ability to critically evaluate and compare different formulations of control problems for different quality criteria
