Aim
  • The objective of the course is to equip participants with knowledge and experience of the Julia langue, to an extent that makes it a natural alternative to other languages such as Matlab and Python.
Contents
  • The course consists of a series of seminars. The topics of the seminars are decided by the participants, but at least the following topics will be included: Fundamentals, Linear algebra, Convex optimization, interfacing with other languages (C/Python/R), Distributed computing. Each seminar is followed by an homework assignment. The course is concluded with an individually conducted mini project.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • have holistic knowledge of the Julia language syntax, semantics and type system.
    be able to use the Julia language for numeric computations.
    master the language sufficiently well to formulate and solve problems relevant to her or his own research.
    independently gather sufficient knowledge of a self-chosen aspect of the language, to prepare a seminar.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to choose between the tools provided by the Julia language, to solve a specific problem.
    be able to decide wether a specific problem is best solved using Julia, or another programming language or tool.
