General
Aim
  • The aim of the course is to enable students to develop an understanding of publishing traditions within their field of study and adjacent fields.
Contents
  • The course consists of two modules, the first of which deals with the conventions for publishing research results in the research field and adjacent fields. The publishing traditions of other disciplines are also addressed. The students are to study the required texts and produce a written reflection, followed by a critical discussion between the supervisor and student on the reading and written reflection. In the second module, the students are to critically read two PhD theses and produce a written report of views and reflections on the theses. The assessment is based on the student’s oral report of the written views and reflections.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • demonstrate knowledge of the publishing traditions of his or her field of study
    demonstrate insight into the different publishing traditions of other fields of research studies
    demonstrate understanding of the requirements of PhD thesis design in their field of study and in adjacent fields

Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to structure a text based on their research results in accordance with the publishing traditions within their field of study
    demonstrate the ability to critically discuss a research study within their field
    be able to design a PhD thesis in accordance with prevailing publishing traditions
