Aim

The aim of the course is to give knowledge concerning how rates of enzymatic reactions can be measured and how such measurements can be used to calculate relevant kinetic constants.

Goals

Course Contents

Important topics in the course include: mechanisms of enzymatic reactions, measurement of kinetic constants, derivation of rate equations, enzyme inhibition and effects of pH and temperature on enzymatic reactions. Exercises from the course book will be done individually and discussed in the group. After this basic part, the students will select published scientific papers concerning enzyme kinetics, which they will present for the rest of the group. Finally, each student will work on a small project within the enzyme kinetics area on a topic chosen by the student and the course leader. It can be a literature survey, a set of calculations, etc. The results of the project should be summarized briefly in a written report.
