Aim

The aim of the course is for the PhD-student to achieve a deep understanding of advanced wastewater treatment and to explore the research front of micropollutant removal in advanced wastewater treatment.

Goals

Knowledge and Understanding

For a passing grade the doctoral student must show contextual understanding of adsorption and degradation processes applied for micropollutant removal in advanced wastewater treatment.

Competences and Skills

For a passing grade the doctoral student must show ability to formulate, complete and present (written and oral presentation) a project identifying a relevant research topic with an adequate background description.

Judgement and Approach

For a passing grade the doctoral student must show a critical approach in the reflection of own work and in constructive peer response on peers’ texts – both in writing and in speech.

Course Contents

The course is aimed at PhD students in wastewater engineering with an interest in removal of micropollutants. The course comprises reading of literature and discussions with other course participants in seminars. Each participant formulates a project and presents the work in a written report and orally at a final seminar. Peer review of one other project. The course will cover aspects on 1) analysis of organic micropollutants, 2) ozonation processes including post-treatment, 3) adsorption based on activated carbon.
