Aim

The give the students abilities to discuss and assess research ethical questions within their research area.

Goals

Knowledge and Understanding

For a passing grade the doctoral student must Obtain a comprehensive understanding of research ethics in various professional situations

Competences and Skills

For a passing grade the doctoral student must Be able to systematically discuss research ethical topics of relevance to their own research.

Judgement and Approach

For a passing grade the doctoral student must Be able to assess different modes of action in a research ethic situation.

Course Contents

Ethics and Codes of conducts, Frauds, Plagiarism, Animal experiments, Data collected from humans

Course Literature

"RESEARCH METHODS FOR POSTGRADUATES" Tony Greenfiel and Sue Green, Wiley 2016, chapter 5 and 6. Is included in the electronic library at LU.

Instruction Details

Types of instruction: Seminars, self-study literature review. 2 seminars where the analyses in the literature of research ethical issues are discussed in relation to the students own research

Examination Details

Examination format: Seminars given by participants. The seminar contribution is evaluated by the examiner of the course.
Grading scale: Failed, pass

Admission Details

Admission requirements: Master in engineering or in science or comparable background.
Selection criteria: Students who have the course as a mandatory requirement in their education have priority.
