General
Aim
  • The aim of the course is to increase knowledge and reflection in the area of specialization of the PhD student and to develop ability to link own research to new methodology and society.
Contents
  • The course consists of sub-blocks, each of which focuses on a series of seminars related to aerosol science. For each sub-block, the following shall be met:

    1. The PhD student shall participate in about 5 seminars (on a scientific level), that are determined in advance together with supervisor/examiner
    2. The PhD student writes a report for each seminar consisting of a) short summary, b) analyses including literature comparison and c) a reflection on application in own research area.
    3. The PhD student discusses the seminars in group together with the course examiner.

When all steps are performed for one sub-block, the student receives 1 credit.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to account for the presented research clearly and concisely
demonstrate knowledge about the methodology and discourse in the research area
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • demonstrate the ability to analyse and critically review the presented research
demonstrate the ability to independently identify issues and proposals that could develop or improve research
demonstrate the ability to discuss research orally
demonstrate the ability to survey and evaluate present research
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • demonstrate intellectual independence in assessment of others' research
demonstrate an understanding of the limitations and merits of the evaluated research
reflect on the value and benefits of the research conducted within one's own area of specialization

  •
  • Seminar material and scientific articles in the area of the seminar.
Further Information
  • The course can give a maximum of 5 credits and is ongoing continuously during the doctoral studies. Unlike the course "Reading Course in Aerosol Technology" (MAM001F), the seminar course builds on lectures, tutorials at conferences and presentations with the purpose of broadening the understanding of the research education topic and linking own research to new technologies and surrounding society. Seminars/tutorials are selected together with supervisors in such a way that they do not overlap with other doctoral courses.
