    Swedish
  • If sufficient demand
Aim
  • Turbomachinery is a central part of any power plant. This course aims to offer a further specialization into the construction, function and control of these components. The course presents the thermodynamic and fluid mechanics of the interaction between the fluid and the machine. This course will thus provide an understanding of modern design methods associated with turbomachinery
Contents
  • The course aims at describing fundamental and advanced concepts in the field of turbomachinery. The concepts in the course are
Principles of thermodynamics and fluid flow
    Compressible flow through nozzles
    Principle of turbomachinery analysis
    Steam turbines
    Axial turbines
    Axial compressors
    Centrifugal compressors and pumps
    Radial inflow turbines
    Hydraulic turbines
    Streamline curvature and radial equilibrium
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Apply knowledge in thermodynamics and fluid mechanics to the understanding of turbomachinery
Describe, discuss and explain the function of the most common turbomachines
Understand basic consepts that govern the design of turbomachinery
Understand the principles that govern the three-dimensional flow through a turbomachine
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Identify, formulate and apply relevant models in the modeling of turbomachinery for the construction and design of turbomachinery
Use modern techinques such as simulation tools for understanding the anaylsis of turbomachinery in innovative energy systems
Present and use models and simulation methods within the subject
Use simplified models to analyse turbomachinery
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Present material and lead discussions on the subject of turbomachines
Present relevant theory to fellow students in a relevant manner
