General
Aim
  • Electromechanic actuators are getting increasingly more common in industry products and productions systems. Skills in the design and integration of such are thus important. The purpose of this course is to provide such skills.

Contents
  • Lectures: Windings, current density, torque production and losses. Optimisation, torque quality, reluctance net models, FEM analysis.
    Project: Design of an electrical machine with the use of a FEM design programme.

Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • understand how magnetic, electric, thermal and mechanical properties interact for the desired function of the actuator;
    know the most important design material properties.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to use a FEM software for magnetic and thermal design of an electromagnetic actuator;
    be able to make fundamental magnetic, mechanic, thermal and electric design of an electromagnetic actuator.
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to discuss and evaluate the properties of an electric actuator design in a certain application with the application design engineer.
