Aim
  • The course aims to improve doctoral students capacities in research ethics, and provide an understanding of the need of measures that can enhance credibility in research processes. It also aims to foster a critical approach to the participants own research and that of others.
Contents
  • Basic ethical principles, the objectives of research, research integrity, fraudulent research (including the Lund University policy on such matters), ethics of research result dissemination (publication), researcher aurthority (incl. issues of outreach), legislation.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to identify reserarch ethical issues in various scientific contexts, including the students own research.
    be able to give accounts for main principles of research integrity, in all stages of research processes.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to give accounts for conditions that may lead to fraudulent research or suspicion thereof, in particular in the students own research context.
    be able to apply legislation and guidelines related to fraudulent research.
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to independently suggest measures that prevent fraudulent research.

  • Self-study literature review
  • The course includes lectures, discussions, group work, and reading of literature. Participants actively analyse research from an academic conduct point of view, in order bto minimize risks of fraudulent research.

  • 100% attendance is required to pass the course.
  • Failed, pass
Admission Requirements
  • Doctoral students at LTH are eligible to taker the course.

Selection Criteria
  • Selection of participants is based on priority of students who took more ects in their doctoral programme.

  • Handed out by the course leaders. In addition God forskningssed, Vetenskapsrådet (2017) is handed out.
