Aim
  • The purpose of the course is to provide participants with practical experience and theoretical knowledge of flow cytometric analysis of microbial cell populations
Contents
  • The course consists of compulsory lectures, seminars, workshops, oral or written exercises, and experimental projects carried out in groups of 1-4 people.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Be able to comprehend principles of the flow cytometry instrument, including basic knowledge in the design of the instrument and its operation.
    Be able to describe the most common microbial flow cytometry applications, including possibilities and limitations for analysis and preparative sorting of microbial populations.
    Be able to analyse and interpret data obtained from flow cytometry.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Have the ability to make an experimental plan and perform the analysis of microbial populations with multiple-fluorescence flow cytometry.
    Be able to process and analyse of flow cyometry raw data with selected software.
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Be able to explain type of results that can be obtained with flow cytometry.
    Be able to compare results from different analyses and from an analytical point of view understand similarities/differences.
    Be able to summarise flow cytometry results in a report.

  • To pass the course, the student must have (1) >95% attendance to all lectures and practical exercises, (2) handed in a written report and (3) made an oral presentation summarizing the literature study.
