Aim
  • Provide basic knowledge about the anatomy of the body, the functions of different cells and organs, the mechanisms behind these functions and interaction of organ systems, with special emphasize on metabolism and nutrition.
Contents
  • On the basis of knowledge in biochemistry and cell biology, the main contents are anatomy and physiology, endocrinology and metabolism of the gastrointestinal tract. The course also includes neurophysiology, respiration and circulation, muscle function and kidney function. The course contains lectures, group exercises, laboratory work and one individual task to present orally and in writing. During the course there are possiblities to perform two small tests (duggas).
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • •explain and use basic terminology within human physiology
    •describe the anatomy of the body as well as the function of the most important organs and organ systems
    •understand basic concepts of the metabolism and its regulation
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • •be able to analyse issues relating to physiology of nutrition and apply aquired knowledge to solve such issues
    •describe physiological phenomena to other course participants both orally and in writing
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • •attain a basic, natural science-based understanding of the various functions of the human body
    •attain an ability to search for and assess information on human physiology from scientific articles, electronic sources and public media
