Aim
  • The aim of the course is to increase knowledge and reflection in the area of specialization of the PhD student.
Contents
  • The course consists of sub-blocks, each of which focuses on a research paper in the doctoral student's topic of specialization. For each sub-block, the following shall be met:

    1. Literature search to select an appropriate scientific article.
    2. The student reads and analyzes the article and write a report consisting of a) short summary, and b) critical evaluation. A number of questions are to be answered regarding methodology etc.
    3. The student discusses the article in the group together with a course leader or supervisor.

    When all steps are performed for one sub-block, the student receives 0.5 credits.
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Demonstrate an ability to describe and analyze the concepts and methods used in the research study that is analyzed.
    Demonstrate depth and up-to-date specialist knowledge in their own research area.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Demonstrate the ability to analyse and critically review current research.
    Demonstrate the ability to independently identify issues and proposals that could develop or improve research.
    Demonstrate the ability to assess whether adequate methodology was used.
    Demonstrate the ability to express, in writing, a relevant analysis of current research.
    Demonstrate the ability to discuss research orally.
    Demonstrate the ability to review and evaluate published research.
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • Demonstrate intellectual independence in assessment of others' research.
    Demonstrate an understanding of the limitations and merits of the evaluated research.
    Reflect on the value and benefits of the research conducted within their own area of specialization.
