Aim
  • To give an introduction to fracture mechnics
Contents
  • According to the book "Introduction to fracture mechanics" by Kåre Hellan and additions relating to applications to building materials and numerical calcultations
Knowledge and Understanding
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • show basic knowledge about theory and various applications of linear elastic fracture mechanics, and some knowledge about various non-linear fracture mechanics models and their applications.
Competences and Skills
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • have ability to carry out fracture mechanics calculations for prediction of crack growth by hand calculation methods and numerically by means of finite element methods.
    have ability to read and understand literature dealing with fracture mechanics and the fracture mechanics properties of various materials and structures.
Judgement and Approach
  • For a passing grade the doctoral student must
  • be able to assess fractures properties for different materials and structures, based on rational thinking in terms of basics from strength of materials, mechanics and physics.
