Aim

The aim of this course is to give an overview of contemporary research in architecture and urbanity. The course is given approximately every second year and each time the course may have a different theme, such as materiality, temporality or artistic/practicebased research.

Goals

Knowledge and Understanding

For a passing grade the doctoral student must

• - demonstrate an understanding of other researchers' studies in terms of theoretical foundations, methods and results;
• - demonstrate an understanding of the relationship between the student's doctoral work and the themes of the course.

Competences and Skills

For a passing grade the doctoral student must

• - be able to discuss others' and own research from a scientific approach in an academic setting;
• - be able to present their own research in a scientific context with a well-defined theoretical basis.

Judgement and Approach

For a passing grade the doctoral student must

• - be able to reflect on others' and own research results, and relate them to relevant concepts in urban and/or architectural research;
• - be able to critically scrutinize and evaluate research results from published studies within the theme of the course.

Course Contents

The course introduces different discourses and basic concepts related to the course theme and discussing in the context of architectural and urban research. The course consists of literature studies, workshops, lectures and seminars within the theme stated. Participants are expected to deliver a research statement as related to the theme and a short paper.
