Give insight to how process optimization problems are formulated and how corresponding solution metod behaves.


Knowledge and Understanding

For a passing grade the doctoral student must understand how to classify optimization problems and to select a proper class of solution methods

Competences and Skills

For a passing grade the doctoral student must use the basic optimization methods in optimization, particular to ones available in MATLAB.

Judgement and Approach

For a passing grade the doctoral student must understand how an optimization problem can be reformulated into another and to have insight to how optimization technique can successfully be used in process engineering.

Course Contents

Optimization is a fundamental tool I all process engineering development, design and research. Optimization is the activity to find a good solution as possible based on an objective. This course focus on two parts: 1) the need to formulate a correct optimization problem and the understanding of the properties of the corresponding solution method, 2) the technique and skill to formulate and reformulate process engineering problems to optimization problems and solve them.
