Aim

To give an introduction to fracture mechanics

Goals

Knowledge and Understanding

For a passing grade the doctoral student must Basic knowledge about linear elastic fracture mechanics at quasi-static monotonic loading and basic applications of the HIllerborg model for mode I cracks.

Competences and Skills

For a passing grade the doctoral student must

Judgement and Approach

For a passing grade the doctoral student must be able to schematically assess different materials and structures for fractures properties based on rational thinking in terms of basics from strength of materials, mechanics and physics.

According to chapter 1-4 in the book "Introduction to fracture mechanics" by Kåre Hellan and additions relating to applications to building materials and numerical methods
